Description
A warm and comforting dessert that blends the sweetness of apples with the exotic aroma of five spice powder.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon five spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup apple cider or water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- Optional: 1/4 cup granola
- Optional: 1 tablespoon lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and position the rack in the middle.
- Wash and core the apples, leaving the bottom intact to hold the filling.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, five spice powder, cinnamon, chopped walnuts, and raisins.
- Stir in melted butter and vanilla extract until combined.
- Place apples in a baking dish and fill each with the prepared mixture.
- Pour apple cider or water into the dish around the apples.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until apples are tender and tops caramelized.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Optionally drizzle with maple syrup or sprinkle with granola.
Notes
Use firm apples like Granny Smith to avoid mushiness. Don’t overfill the apples. Cover with foil during the first bake for even cooking.
