  • 8 oz (225 g) mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water
  • 2 cups (250 g) breadcrumbs or panko
  • Oil for frying
  • Optional: crushed ramen noodles for coating
  • Optional: potato cubes for coating
  • Optional: sugar and ketchup for topping

Instructions

  1. Cut hot dogs and mozzarella into similar-sized pieces.
  2. Thread each skewer with a hot dog piece and a mozzarella stick, packed tightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add cold water and mix into a smooth batter.
  5. Place breadcrumbs or coating of choice into a shallow dish.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Dip each skewer into the batter, letting excess drip off.
  8. Roll in breadcrumbs or chosen coating, pressing gently to adhere.
  9. Fry 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  10. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with sugar and drizzle ketchup if desired.

Notes

Use cold water in the batter for a better coating. Don’t overcrowd the pan to keep corn dogs crispy and prevent cheese leakage.
