- 4 hot dogs
- 8 oz (225 g) mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (60 g) cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240 ml) cold water
- 2 cups (250 g) breadcrumbs or panko
- Oil for frying
- Optional: crushed ramen noodles for coating
- Optional: potato cubes for coating
- Optional: sugar and ketchup for topping
Instructions
- Cut hot dogs and mozzarella into similar-sized pieces.
- Thread each skewer with a hot dog piece and a mozzarella stick, packed tightly.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add cold water and mix into a smooth batter.
- Place breadcrumbs or coating of choice into a shallow dish.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each skewer into the batter, letting excess drip off.
- Roll in breadcrumbs or chosen coating, pressing gently to adhere.
- Fry 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with sugar and drizzle ketchup if desired.
Notes
Use cold water in the batter for a better coating. Don’t overcrowd the pan to keep corn dogs crispy and prevent cheese leakage.
