Description
A Korean street food favorite, Korean grilled squid is smoky, savory, and a little spicy. Perfectly tender rings of squid marinated in gochujang, garlic, and sesame oil, grilled to perfection and garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

- 2 medium-sized squids, cleaned and cut into rings
- 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, for garnish
- 2 green onions, chopped, for garnish
- Optional: 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- Optional: 1 tablespoon chili flakes
- Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon zest
Instructions
- Clean the squid: remove the head, entrails, and beak, rinse under cold water, and slice into rings. Pat dry.
- Mix marinade: In a bowl, whisk gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar.
- Marinate: Add squid to marinade, mix well, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat grill to medium-high and oil the grates lightly.
- Grill squid for 2–3 minutes per side until opaque and lightly charred.
- Transfer to serving platter and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve hot with optional dipping sauce or steamed rice.
Notes
Do not overcook the squid to prevent a rubbery texture. Pat squid dry before marinating to ensure maximum flavor.
