Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon brown mustard seeds
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients before starting.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the mustard seeds with vinegar and water. Let soak for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. Transfer soaked seeds and liquid to a blender or food processor.
  4. Add sugar, salt, turmeric, garlic powder, and any optional add-ins.
  5. Blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down sides as needed.
  6. If mixture is too thick, add water or vinegar to adjust consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or spiciness as desired.
  8. Transfer to a sterilized jar and refrigerate for 24 hours before use.

Notes

Letting the mustard rest enhances the flavor. Taste as you go to adjust spice and sweetness to your preference.
